Billy Whizz - Nick Brennan

The Beano is now made by new printers but sadly some stories like Dennis and Gnasher, Ivy the Terrible and Freddie Fear have got big, ugly, white gaps at the top and bottom of their strips.

The Numskulls, The Bash Street Kids and Billy Whizz (left) have all had new title panels drawn to tie in with the new Beano.

Freddie Fear is finally back and features in a fantastically written story drawn by Dave Eastbury. Nice to see it's made a comeback!

Sadly no Meebo and Zuky, Robbie Rebel, Calamity James, Super School, Lord Snooty the Third, Beano Manga or 3 Bears this week but instead we get a beautifully drawn comic strip by David Sutherland which features the Bash Street Kids (below)

Search for the Face of the Beano Shop - David Sutherland
Pretty decent comic this week, although it didn't have the full character roster, the stories were mostly funny and neatly drawn.

So basically here's my old Beanotown-styled advertisement on Beano Issue 3563:

Dennis and Gnasher have got hold of some practical joke items, that can only mean one thing, TROUBLE! Minnie the Minx is sending Christmas gifts to people, minx style! The Bash Street Kids are trying to escape from Bash Street School, nothing new there then!

Roger the Dodger becomes a hotel inspector for the day , Ivy the Terrible finds out about germs, Ball Boy and Chandra  arrange their formation using biscuits and the Numskulls have some magic up their sleeves!

Who's the new face of the Beano Shop? Fred becomes
one of the Musketeers and Billy Whizz is being a suck up to his Dad.

As well as that there's also Freddie Fear, Ratz and 60 Second Dennis, so what are you waiting for, hurry down to your local newsagents today and pick up the new Beano!

Next time it's the Christmas Special, 48 pages of laughs! As well as some great gifts including a Beano beanie! All for £3.99, on sale from 8th- 21st December!

  4. Dunno if it's escaped your attention, but Comic Idol strips don't exactly have a good track record. The last time they tried such a competition, in 2006, the winner ran for about six issues. Doubtless this shambles was what prompted the Idol's four-year absence, and then return in a different guise.

So far the only exception to this rule has been Freddie Fear (although Colin the Vet went on for quite a while, which was ironic, as technically he didn't even win).

  5. I must say I agree with your comment although there's also the exception of Crazy for Daisy, Tin Traveller and The 3 Bears...

However other characters like Zap Zodiac and Nicky Nutjob hardly lasted any time in the comic....

Meebo and Zuky has something about it though which makes me believe it will last a while.... Maybe the violence of it? I don't know...

To be honest, all 3 stories this Comic Idol all had good potential and I must say, I love the idea of the Comic Idol! :D
